The City of Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office is inviting applicants for the position of Deputy City Attorney—Criminal. NATURE OF WORK
Under the direction and supervision of the City Attorney, the Deputy City Attorney--Criminal is responsible for managing the Criminal Division of the City Attorney’s Office. The Criminal Division is responsible for reviewing and prosecuting gross misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and petty misdemeanor offenses against persons or property within the City of Minneapolis.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)
§ Oversees the prosecution of adults charged with petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor offenses committed in the City§ Supervises divisional staff by delegating with clarity, coaching and developing the staff’s legal and professional expertise, and fostering an atmosphere that values and rewards responsiveness, innovation, thoroughness, and professionalism§ Participates as a key member of the City Attorney’s Office Management Team§ Interacts with the City’s elected officials and staff and provides advice related to criminal justice matters§ Works closely with the Minneapolis Police Department, District Court, the County Attorney’s Office, Community Corrections, the Sheriff’s Office, community and advocacy groups and other members of the criminal justice community§ Responsible for managing the Criminal Division so that it can achieve Office goals and objectives§ Develops and implements policies, procedures, and performance standards for the division § Responsible for staffing the division with a qualified and diverse workforce and for creating a culture that supports diversity § When assigned, serves as the Acting City Attorney in the absence of the City Attorney and serves as the City Attorney’s alternate in committees (e.g., the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee)
REQUIREMENTS ExperienceAt least ten (10) years of legal experience. Significant criminal law experience. Demonstrated ability to manage the Criminal Division.EducationJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.LicenseAdmitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota and Federal District Court, Minnesota Division.
