The 3D’s in “Gig Economy”

DAMAGES, DISRESPECT AND DISCRIMINATION

This program will provide current and useful information to insurance staff counsel and outside tort practitioners on a damage issue seen more and more in today’s transforming economy; the measure-ment of past loss of income and future earning capacity suffered by those who are self-employed in today’s “gig economy.” Uber and Lyft drivers, freelance web designers, and the like present new chal-lenges in presenting and defending lost income and lost earning capacity claims.

The second section of our seminar will address issues of discrimination in modern legal practice, dis-cussing the twin questions of how practitioners can avoid unconscious bias towards others and how they can best deal with bias and discrimination when it is directed at them.

The program will also feature a panel discussion on a day in the life of a litigator to the law students of Mitchell Hamline.
