Klobuchar and Franken: Applications for U.S. Attorney Now Being Accepted
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken today announced that they will accept applications for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota.
“Minnesota has a long tradition of outstanding U.S. attorneys,” said Senator Klobuchar. “To carry the mantle, we are looking for a seasoned, respected attorney who is fair-minded and independent, who can work productively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and who is committed to the rule of law and the people of Minnesota. I’m confident that the right Minnesotans to recommend for this important position are out there.”
“The U.S. attorney working on behalf of the people of Minnesota must be fair, impartial, and committed to the pursuit of justice," said Senator Franken. "I have no doubt that we will hear from a broad group of Minnesota attorneys who are well-qualified to serve in this important position."
Klobuchar and Franken recommended former U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger for the position in 2013. He was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate. On March 10, 2017, all U.S. Attorneys, including Luger, were asked by the Justice Department to resign. The Senators then spent weeks working with the White House to see if Luger could return to his post. On May 9, Luger announced that he would become a partner in the Minneapolis office of Jones Day. Now that discussions for Luger’s reappointment have concluded, Klobuchar and Franken will accept applications for U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota.
Those wishing to be considered for the position of U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota should submit a letter of interest and resume between Tuesday, May 30, 2017 and Friday, June 9 to: Office of Senator Amy Klobuchar, 1200 Washington Avenue South, Suite 250, Minneapolis, MN 55415.
