Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton on Tuesday officially announced a judicial vacancy in Minnesota’s Third Judicial District Court, a position which serves Freeborn County. Governor Dayton is seeking committed individuals to serve as members of the Commission on Judicial Selection. The 49-member commission will review applications and make recommendations to appointing authorities for vacancies in district courts and the Workers Compensation Court of Appeals. The Minnesota Supreme Court and the Governor appoint both attorneys and non-attorneys for the commission. …Read More
Every year the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Minnesota honors 20 professionals under the age of 40 who are forging new paths in work and community building.
The Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association (MHBA) denounces the introduction of Bill HF3830 to the Minnesota legislature. Bill HF3830 (introduced earlier this month) is similar to the already infamous Arizona law SB1070 in that it requires public officials to ask for proof of immigration status based on “reasonable suspicion” that a person is undocumented. MHBA President, Mara Garcia Kaplan stated, “Such a law is likely to be unconstitutional as it cannot be implemented without resorting to racial profiling.”
The MHBA’s very own Melisa Lopez Franzen was recently highlighted in The Affiliate, an American Bar Association publication, for her contributions to the Minnesota Hispanic bar and the greater Minnesota legal community.
