The MHBA is committed to encourage the participation of Latino students in developing and remaining responsive to the social, political, and academic promotion of the Latino/a community and to encourage and promote the recruitment, academic achievement, and retention of Latino/a law students in Minnesota and elsewhere.
The MHBA has an annual mentor/mentee reception during the Fall Semester to introduce students to attorney mentors. The mentoring process can last well beyond the student's law school career, and some mentor/mentees find themselves serving on the MHBA board together.
In its nascent stage is the Get In! Minnesota Minority Mentoring Program, a program designed to assist minority students navigate various areas of working and practicing law where their counterparts may not have the same experiences. Working with other minority bars, local organizations such as Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, and the law schools, the MHBA hopes to increase not only the success of current students in Minnesota law schools, but to also provide another recruiting method for students of color to Minnesota.
